Manege central exhibition hall is the biggest display space in central St. Petersburg.
After a major refurbishment, installation of state-of-the-art exhibition facilities and the updating of its cultural programme, the Manege is well on its way to becoming one of Russia’s most in-demand venues for displaying world-class art and curatorial projects, as well as a key attraction point on St. Petersburg cultural map.
This development follows the global precedents of converting historical riding halls to a variety of new functions, most notably — into exhibition venues and centres for contemporary arts. Examples include the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow, Manege Kremlin Exhibition Hall in Kazan, the Manege of the Small Hermitage in St. Peterbsurg, or the Museumsquartier on the territory of the former court stables and riding hall in Wien. Symposium programme consists of a variety of talks from the representatives of Russia’s leading cultural venues. Together, they share their knowledge of the process of historical buildings transformation to contemporary realities, and discuss the opportunities and challenges of St. Petersburg Manege further development.
