Saeed Al Marri is a leading photographic portraitist in Qatar who won first prize in the Al Thani Photography Competition in 2012. He has found widespread appeal for his work, with 60,000 followers on Instagram.
Evocative of an old world rapidly disappearing, Saeed's portraits and figure studies appeal to a strong sense of tradition, through Rembrandtesque lighting effects and their earthy colour palette. Ahmad Al Ghazal is a shopkeeper in Souq Waqif. Often to be found listening to a radio outside his small shop, he carries with him the history of harder and quieter Qatar days.
