Doha Fashion Fridays
Aparna Jayakumar was born in Mumbai but is now based in Doha, where she works in promoting education and outreach through the photographic medium. She was one of India's five nominees for the 2009 Prix Pictet. In 2012 she founded the Bombay Photo Club.
'Fashion Fridays' is a collaborative project with political cartoonist Khalid Albaih that captures the dress worn by Qatar's blue-collar workers on their day off. Behind the portraits are diverse biographies. Jeff Ikumbu, for example, is an aspiring musician employed as a security guard in Doha. Modesta Nzume was visiting her husband Terrence Nzume, safety manager, from Cameroon.
Ali Tulu, 25, engineer, is pictured celebrating his wedding day, his wife remaining at home in Ethiopia.
