Mahgoob
Hadeer Omar, Simone Muscolino and Abdulrahman have collaborated on a number of photographic projects in Qatar. Hadeer is a media artist, who appears in many of her photographs, Simone Muscolino director of the Art Foundation at VCUarts and Abdulrahman Hassona a photographer.
The expectations about how Muslim women should behave are endless and operate asymmetrically. Representing women can therefore become a challenging and arduous responsibility. Mahgoob responds to these frustrations by reinterpreting the veil as an accessory of choice and object of empowerment. The images are a way to celebrate women's leadership, self-determination and independent existence.
