Zhenya Mironov (Russian Federation)

Qatarsis

Zhenya Mironov was born in Moscow and graduated from the Moscow University of Culture and Arts (Yuri Babich studio). He is a nominee for the Kandinsky Prize (2014), Nord Art Prize (2015) and BLOOOM Award (2016). He visited Qatar in August 2018 by invitation from Qatar Museums.

Zhenya's series Qatarsis is exhibited in four parts: Qatar Metaphysics, Objects of Pure Mind, Qatar Fractals and Covered Objects. The works strive to identify the essence of the visual forms peculiar to Qatar. Zhenya shoots objects that in his opinion contain particles of pure consciousness, calling the method 'Transpersonal Photography'. At the heart of his system is the desire to seek out visual metaphors between different elements of the cityscape: similarities between objects in the foreground and background of scenes, for example, and the correspondences that are revealed when subjects are presented in unusual juxtapositions or orientations.
